Dire Dawa

A child undergoing rehabilitation
The Dire Dawa rehabilitation centre is dedicated to helping the disabled to walk again through the provision of custom-made mobility aids and physiotherapy. Those needing corrective surgery are transferred to the Menagesha Home in Addis Ababa. The physiotherapy unit assesses new cases and provides exercise therapy and massage to help rehabilitate patients.
The prosthetic service has transformed the lives of hundreds of people. Over 30 people visit the centre to be fitted with prosthetic limbs every week. The Prosthetic and Orthotic workshop has recently been restructured and equipped with upgraded machinery, enabling the skilled workers to create state-of-the-art prosthetics for those in need.
It is not just those with physical disabilities that are helped by Cheshire. Children with developmental issues are assisted too. Educational support is provided for students with all kinds of disabilities. Financial support is given too, which has been contributing to the high attendance rates and performance of students. Cheshire Services are working with local schools to create awareness with respect to disability prevention and taking care of children with disabilities in the school compound.
How can you help?
